VIC: Man jailed over real estate agent s murder

A Victorian man has been jailed for 18 years for shooting dead a real estate agent because
he believed he was being cheated over a house purchase.

Sixty-four-year-old HENRY PORTELLI, of Avondale Heights in Melbourne, was repeatedly
shouted that he didn't kill the woman, as he was led from the Supreme Court after sentencing
today.

PORTELLI had pleaded not guilty to the murder of property manager, TRACI ANNE BECK on April
2, 1997.

The shooting followed Mr PORTELLI's effort to retrieve a $15,000 house deposit.

Justice JOHN COLDREY said PORTELLI entered Ms BECK'S office and fired the shotgun into her
upper chest from a distance of about one metre.

He said Ms BECK was a thoroughly decent woman who had established herself as a successful
businesswoman and her death was tragic and untimely.

Justice COLDREY fixed a minimum non-parole term of 15 years, which means PORTELLI will be
almost 80 when due for release.
