SAN DIEGO - Boston Red Sox starter Curt Schilling was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Friday because of soreness in his right shoulder. The move was retroactive to Tuesday.
To take his roster spot, the Red Sox recalled outfielder David Murphy from Triple-A Pawtucket.
The Red Sox will need a starter for Tuesday's game at Seattle and will have to make another roster move then.
