The University of Nebraska is increasing its hiring of women and minority faculty members, but still fell short of its 2002 annual goals, a new report shows.
The Legislature five years ago required the university to reach at least the midpoint of its peers on employing women and minority faculty by August 2002. Last year, the target date was delayed to August 2005. University officials project they can reach the goal by that new deadline.
The report shows the number of minority faculty members increased by 14 between fall 2001 and fall 2002. The goal for the year had been 15 for the four-campus system.
